How to Care for and Maintain Wood Furniture
Good care starts with knowing how your furniture is finished. An oiled hardwood top, a painted cabinet and a lacquered surface can need different products and maintenance. Use the instructions supplied with the piece.
Clean gently
Dust with a soft cloth. For cleaning, use the product recommended for the finish and avoid soaking the surface. Wipe up spills promptly and dry away remaining moisture.
Protect against heat and standing water
Use suitable coasters and mats under drinks and hot items. Keep wet objects off the surface and avoid placing furniture beside strong heat sources or where water can collect.
Allow for the room
Wood responds to changes in its surroundings. Keep conditions as consistent as practical and consider prolonged direct sunlight when choosing where the furniture will stand.
Maintain the finish appropriately
Do not routinely add wax, polish or oil without checking that it is compatible with the existing finish. If a surface is damaged or needs refreshing, ask for advice before sanding or applying another product.
